Water and Tax Billing Information

TAX BILLING

The Village tax bills are mailed by May 20^th  and have a due date of June 1^st but are payable, without penalty, by July 1^st (if July 1^st falls on a weekend the due date becomes the following Monday).  Unpaid taxes will be subject to interest and penalties as follows, 5% for the first month after due date and 1% for each additional month.

You are responsible for the prompt payment of your tax bill, if you do not receive your bill by June 1^st, you should contact village hall to find out the amount due. 

Payments are considered on time if:

·        Upon delivery to the Village the envelope is clearly postmarked (by the US Post Office or a courier service authorized by the US Secretary of the Treasury) on or before the due date. 

·        Walked into our offices by the due date

·        Left in our drop box outside the Village Hall doors by the due date.  

Payments received after the due date without a legible or authorized postmark, will be considered late and interest and penalties will be applied. 

In accordance with Real Property Tax Law §1432, the village may not accept payment of less than the full amount of taxes and interest due. 

All payments are to be made to the Village of Farmingdale at the Village Hall, 361 Main Street, Farmingdale, New York.

All taxes which remain unpaid by the second Tuesday in March will be sold at a public tax lien sale.

WATER BILLING CHARGES

Water Service Charges quarterly:

Residential customer - $35.10/meter each quarter

Multi-family customer - $21.25 per unit each quarter

Commercial customer - $77.25/meter each quarter

Water Consumption Charges:

Residential customer - $2.92/1,000 gallons consumed with an additional $1.90/1,000 gallons charged at the end of the fiscal year for all gallons consumed over 250,000 gallons for the year

Multi-family customer - $2.92/1,000 gallons consumed

Commercial customer - $5.08/1,000 gallons consumed

Any over/under payment will be applied to the next quarterly billing.  Unpaid balances, exceeding $5.00, will be subject to the interest and penalties as follows, 5% for the first month after due date and 1% for each additional month.

All water rents shall be paid to the Village of Farmingdale at the Village Hall, 361 Main Street, Farmingdale, New York or to PO Box 220, Farmingdale, New York, in accordance to the following quarterly schedule:

August 1^st billing payment must be received by August 31^st

November 1^st billing payment must be received by November 30^th

February 1^st billing payment must be received by February 28^th

May 1^st billing payment must be received by May 31st

You are responsible for the prompt payment of your water bill, if you do not receive your bill during the first week of the above schedule, you should contact village hall to find out the amount due. 

VILLAGES ARE NOT AUTHORIZED TO “FORGIVE” DELINQUENT WATER CHARGES, AS THIS IS PROHIBITED BY THE NEW YORK STATE CONSTITUTION.

ALL PAYMENTS MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE DUE DATE TO PREVENT INTEREST AND PENALTIES.  FOR WATER BILLS POSTMARKS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.  For your convenience there is a drop box to the left of the Village Hall front doors for your last minute payments.

Unpaid water bills will be relevied to taxes along with a $250 surcharge according to the following schedule:

                              Town of Oyster Bay residents (not residing in the Village) – all water bills not paid by August 31^st will be relevied on to their Town of Oyster Bay taxes.

                              Town of Babylon residents – all water bills not paid by August 31^st will be relevied on to their Town of Babylon taxes.

                              Village of Farmingdale residents – all water bills not paid by March 31^st will be relevied on to their Village taxes.
